If you’ve ever searched the internet wondering, “Can I do Emotion Code on myself?”
the short answer is yes.
You absolutely can.
In fact, I believe every human being has the ability to tap into their subconscious mind, identify emotional blocks, and begin releasing trapped emotions from the body. You do not need some expensive magnet or years of training just to get started.
A simple refrigerator magnet and an Emotion Code chart downloaded from the internet is enough to begin exploring the process. But…I also believe there are limitations when it comes to doing Emotion Code on yourself at home, especially if you are deeply skeptical, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from your intuition, or struggling to trust yourself. And I say that as someone who was once skeptical too.
My Honest Experience With Emotion Code
When I first discovered Emotion Code, I had already spent years trying to heal myself emotionally. I had done therapy, read the books, listened to the podcasts, and searched endlessly for answers about why I felt emotionally triggered, reactive, anxious, or stuck.
When I first read Dr. Bradley Nelson’s book, I was intrigued… but skeptical.
My first instinct was not to immediately start doing sessions on myself. Instead, I hired an Emotion Code practitioner and worked with her consistently for several months before I ever trusted myself enough to become certified and begin practicing on my own.
I still remember my very first session.
She released around 15 trapped emotions, and afterward it genuinely felt like someone had lifted a heavy weight off my chest. It wasn’t a dramatic feeling but it was definitely an undeniable feeling of lightness.
Over the next month, my husband started noticing changes in me too. I wasn’t as emotionally triggered. I wasn’t as angry or reactive. Things that normally would have upset me didn’t seem to affect me the same way anymore. That was the moment I became open to the possibility that negative trapped emotions may actually affect us far more than we realize.
Now, years later, after doing Emotion Code work on myself and clients, I personally notice that after releasing trapped emotions myself and my clients often feel:
mentally clearer,
emotionally lighter,
more creative,
more motivated,
and more at peace.
So… What Are Trapped Emotions?
The way I explain it is this:
Your subconscious mind is like a giant record keeper of your life.
It stores memories, experiences, trauma, heartbreak, rejection, fear, grief, humiliation, panic, abandonment, betrayal, and emotional pain, all attached to emotional energy.
When painful experiences happen, especially traumatic ones, the subconscious mind sometimes traps those emotions as a way to protect you. At first, that protection may serve a purpose. But years later, those same trapped emotions can become emotional triggers.
You may no longer be in the toxic relationship. You may no longer be going through the divorce. You may no longer be in the unsafe environment, but the emotional energy remains trapped in the body. And over time, many people believe those trapped emotions can contribute to emotional heaviness, anxiety, emotional reactivity, lack of motivation, creative blocks, relationship struggles, and even physical dis-ease within the body.
You see, the subconscious mind is trying to protect you.
But sometimes the walls we built for protection eventually become the same walls blocking love, peace, creativity, connection, and emotional freedom.
Can You Successfully Do Emotion Code on Yourself?
Yes, you absolutely can but being open minded matters when doing this work.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is approaching Emotion Code is being completely closed off to the possibility that it could work. And listen, I understand skepticism. Truly I do. I started with a skeptical mind but I was also very open to seeing if this works.
Most people exploring energy healing have already tried everything else. Therapy. EMDR. Medication. Doctors. Self-help books. Podcasts. Mindset work. They are exhausted and wondering:“What if nothing works for me?” I believe belief is powerful. Even modern medicine acknowledges this through the placebo effect. People have literally experienced healing responses after taking sugar pills simply because they believed they were receiving something helpful.
Our beliefs shape our reality more than most people realize.
So if someone approaches Emotion Code believing:
“This is stupid,”
“This is fake,”
“Nothing can help me,”
then they may unconsciously block themselves from fully receiving the experience.
Not necessarily because “nothing happened,” but because they may dismiss every positive shift as coincidence.
Meanwhile, someone else may notice:
better sleep,
emotional relief,
feeling lighter,
less anxiety,
fewer emotional triggers,
increased motivation,
or more emotional clarity.
This is why being open to this type of healing modality matters.
Why Doing Emotion Code on Yourself Can Be Difficult
The subconscious mind can be very defensive. Sometimes it does not want to let go of trapped emotions. Especially if those trapped emotions were originally created for protection.
Many people unconsciously believe:
“If I let this go, I won’t be safe.”
“I need to remember this pain so it never happens again.”
“My anger protects me.”
“My walls protect me.”
But unresolved emotional pain often becomes emotional baggage that follows us into future relationships, careers, friendships, and life experiences. That’s why sometimes working with another practitioner can help. They can often see blind spots we cannot see ourselves. I personally believe if someone is:
deeply emotionally dysregulated,
severely depressed,
actively in crisis,
disconnected from themselves,
or struggling with major trauma,
then working with a professional therapist or a mental health provider and an experienced healing code practitioner may be more supportive than just trying to navigate everything alone.
Emotion Code Should Not Replace Therapy
I repeat, Emotion Code does NOT replace therapy. This part is important to me.
I do not believe Emotion Code should replace therapy, medical care, or mental health treatment. In fact, I think therapy is incredibly valuable. Emotion Code is not about diagnosing mental illness or replacing licensed professionals. I see it more as a complementary healing modality, almost like emotional support alongside other healing tools.
During an Emotion Code session, there often isn’t extensive talking involved. The practitioner is communicating with the subconscious mind through yes-or-no questioning to identify trapped emotional energy. For many people, this becomes an additional layer of healing alongside therapy, nervous system work, self-awareness, spiritual healing, and emotional processing.
What Can Happen During an Emotion Code Session?
Every experience is different.
Sometimes people cry. Sometimes they yawn repeatedly. Sometimes they feel exhausted afterward and sometimes they feel emotionally lighter after one session. I often tell clients that trapped emotions can rise to the surface during a session like squeezing water out of a sponge. And when those emotions surface, I encourage people not to judge themselves.
Instead, I tell them to place their hand over their heart and say:
“Thank you for protecting me. I no longer need this emotion anymore. I release it now for my highest good and the highest good of all.”
That simple shift alone can be incredibly healing. I’ve seen clients process grief, heartbreak, panic, shame, humiliation, and emotional pain they had been carrying for decades. One woman I worked with had fallen into deep grief after losing her mother. She felt emotionally numb, hopeless, and disconnected from life itself. After several sessions, she described feeling alive again. Motivated again. Connected again.
She even shared that she had a beautiful dream encounter with her mother that brought her peace she had not felt in a very long time.

How to Start Doing Emotion Code on Yourself at Home
If you want to begin exploring Emotion Code on yourself, this is the advice I would give:
1. Start With Openness
You do not need blind belief. You just need willingness.
Be skeptical if you need to be.But stay open.
2. Ask for Guidance
Before every session, ask for guidance from:
God,
Source,
your higher self,
angels,
spiritual guides,
or simply the wisdom within your own body.
Set the intention that only healing for your highest good comes forward.
3. Be Honest About What You’re Feeling
Ask yourself:
What feels heavy right now?
What am I struggling with emotionally?
Where do I feel stuck?
The more honest you are with yourself, the more clarity the subconscious can provide.
4. Allow Memories to Surface Naturally
Sometimes memories appear immediately.Sometimes they arise later while driving, showering, folding laundry, or washing dishes.
Your subconscious stores emotional “files,” and sometimes those files open later when the nervous system feels safe enough.
5. Close Every Session With Gratitude
I personally believe intention matters.
At the end of a session, I recommend saying a prayer, expressing gratitude, or simply asking for peace, healing, love, and protection to fill the areas where trapped emotions were released.
Final Thoughts
Do I believe you can do Emotion Code on yourself at home?
Yes.
I truly do.
But I also believe healing requires honesty, openness, self-awareness, and emotional safety.
You do not have to abandon logic to explore energy healing. You do not have to force yourself to believe anything blindly. And you do not have to shame yourself for being skeptical. Sometimes skepticism simply means you’ve been hurt before and you’re trying to protect yourself. But I also believe the human body carries an incredible innate wisdom to be able to heal ourselves. When we get cut, the body immediately begins healing itself without us consciously telling it what to do.
Maybe emotional healing works similarly.
Maybe the body, the subconscious mind, and the nervous system already know how to heal.
Maybe we simply need to learn how to listen.
